Dragon Ball Z Super Butōden 2 is a classic fighting game based on Cell Saga from original Dragon Ball manga and Dragon Ball Z TV show, as well as the ninth Dragon Ball Z movie, Bojack Unbound. It's the second part of trilogy released on Super Nintendo which also includes Dragon Ball Z Super Butōden and Dragon Ball Z Super Butōden 3.
Just like the first part of the trilogy, this time the game also includes an interesting Story Mode. In this part of the game, you can control Gohan, Future Trunks, Vegeta, or Piccolo. Depending on the chosen character, decisions, victories or loss, it follows different branches of the Dragon Ball Z story. Thanks to this, Story Mode is very replayable and provides a lot of fun for a long time. The game also contains several other basic modes. In Arcade Mode (1P vs CPU), you can choose your favorite character and a computer-controlled opponent. After setting a few gameplay parameters, you're ready to fight! If you want to invite your friend to play, it's no problem! Versus Mode (1P vs 2P) will allow you to check which of you is a better fighter (for instructions on how to set the keys for the second player, check the end of this description). You can also watch the fights of two characters controlled by computer AI in Spectator Mode (CPU vs CPU).
The game contains 8 normal characters and 2 hidden ones that can be added to the roster using a specific code. From the very beginning you can choose from such fighters as SSJ2 Gohan (from Cell Saga), Perfect Cell, SSJ Vegeta, Cell Jr., SSJ Future Trunks, Zangya, Piccolo, and Bojack (in full power form). Additionally, you can unlock SSJ Goku and LSSJ Broly. To add him to the game's roster press following combination during the game's intro (when you see Gohan's hands): , S, , X, A, Z, D, C. If you did it correctly, you'll hear Broly's voice saying "Kakarotto".
You'll fight on 12 arenas but almost half of them are duets of levels in day/night versions. You can fight on the ground or fly into the air. After perform a special attack, regardless of the distance between you and your opponent, the attack will hit the target anyway - unless it is countered (the opponent will also make a special move at that time) or destroyed due to the big difference between energy accumulated by both characters. Each character has its iconic attacks. Goku and Gohan can use Kamehameha, Vegeta will send to his opponent Big Bang Attack and Final Flash, Future Trunks will use Burning Attack, etc. If you're a real fan of the franchise (and you are), there is a lot of satisfying fun waiting for you!
